LAHORE: Multan Sultans’ Assistant Head Coach Mohammad Wasim reflected on his team’s struggles in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, acknowledging that it’s not uncommon for players to have off-seasons in professional cricket.
Speaking during the post-match press conference, Wasim admitted that several of his players failed to deliver consistent performances this year. “In the previous season, we were regularly taking wickets during the middle overs. This time, that impact has been missing,” he said. “Though Rizwan has batted well, overall, our players haven’t lived up to expectations.”
Wasim emphasized that individual brilliance has limited value when the team isn’t winning. “When the team loses, personal performances don’t carry much weight. Our shortcomings haven’t been confined to one area—we’ve struggled in all three departments: batting, bowling, and fielding,” he noted.
He addressed rumors of internal discord, saying, “It’s natural for frustrations to surface during tough times, but the team remains united. There’s no division.”
Despite their poor run, Wasim believes the Multan Sultans are still in the hunt. He singled out youngsters like Ubaid Shah and Yasir Shah for their impressive contributions. “Ubaid has outperformed even some platinum-category players. Yasir is adapting well to modern-day cricket. Both have a bright future with Pakistan,” he added.
