Colombo—The final of the ATF South Asian Under-12 Tennis Championship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was called off due to rain, resulting in both teams being declared joint champions of the tournament.
The championship decider was being played in Colombo, where Pakistan’s Rashid Ali gave his team an early lead by defeating Sri Lanka’s V. Vithanuerine in straight sets, 5-4 and 4-0.
The second match of the final featured Pakistan’s Muhammad Shayan Afridi against Sri Lanka’s Amara Singhe. Both players had won one set each when the match was interrupted by rain and could not be resumed.
With the final incomplete, the organizers announced Pakistan and Sri Lanka as co-champions, awarding gold medals to both teams.
Throughout the tournament, Pakistan remained unbeaten, registering victories over Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives, and traditional rivals India in the group stage.
In addition to this success, Team Pakistan has also qualified for the ATF Under-12 Asian Event to be held in Singapore in August.
