
Layyah: A momentous event was held at the District Sports Complex Layyah to celebrate the outstanding performance of local athletes in the Chief Minister Summer Games. For the first time in the district’s history, both boys’ and girls’ hockey teams, along with the boys’ kabaddi team, secured top positions, marking a new chapter in Layyah’s sporting legacy.
The event, organized by the District Sports Department, was graced by Deputy Commissioner Ameera Baidar, who served as the chief guest. She commended the young athletes for their dedication, discipline, and exemplary performance that brought pride to the district.
To honor their achievements, the winning teams were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 25,000, while the runner-up teams received Rs. 15,000. In addition, the athletes were presented with honorary shields in recognition of their efforts.
The ceremony saw active participation from Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahid Malik, District Sports Officer Imtiaz Ahmad Bhatti, Tehsil Sports Officer Muhammad Waseem Gujar, and other notable personalities including Madam Marina Rafiq and Madam Iram Naz. Students and athletes from various schools and colleges also attended the event with great enthusiasm.
Renowned sports figures such as international Taekwondo champion Meher-un-Nisa, Arif Cheena, and Rehman Ghori added prestige to the celebration by motivating and encouraging the young sports stars.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of a trophy to DC Ameera Baidar by the divisional-level winning teams. Commemorative shields were also handed out to distinguished guests by Madam Summeah Qayum, gym instructor at the district sports department.
In her address, DC Ameera Baidar stressed the importance of nurturing youth through sports and healthy activities. She reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to supporting such initiatives, noting that they not only inspire athletes but also contribute to the brighter future of the region.
