Indian batting star KL Rahul has etched his name into the Indian Premier League (IPL) history books by becoming the fastest player to score 5,000 runs in the tournament’s history, breaking the previous record held by David Warner.
The record-breaking feat occurred during the 40th match of IPL 2025 between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 57 as Delhi chased down the target of 160 with ease, winning the match by 8 wickets and moving to second place on the points table with 12 points.
The 33-year-old Rahul achieved the 5,000-run milestone in just 130 innings, surpassing Warner, who had taken 135 innings to reach the same mark back in 2020 while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
This landmark also places KL Rahul as the eighth player in IPL history to cross 5,000 runs, joining an elite list that includes Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and AB de Villiers.
Virat Kohli had reached the milestone in 157 innings, making him third on the list of fastest to 5,000 IPL runs.
Rahul’s 2025 IPL season has been nothing short of impressive. So far, he has amassed 323 runs in 7 matches at an average of 64.60 and a strike rate of 153.80, including three half-centuries. His consistent performances have been pivotal in Delhi Capitals’ rise this season.
