The National Games scheduled to begin on May 1 in Karachi have been postponed once again, as announced by the Sindh Olympic Association. A formal letter has been issued to all relevant institutions, citing unavoidable circumstances behind the decision.
This was the first time in 18 years that Sindh had been granted the opportunity to host the National Games, and preparations had been underway for months. However, according to sources, the decision to postpone the event was made due to the intense heatwave expected in May and the ongoing intermediate board examinations.
Critics argue that the reasons cited were known well in advance. The heatwave in May was anticipated, and the exam schedule had been released months ago, raising questions about planning and management.
Sources further revealed that organizing preparations were far from complete. Several sporting venues and grounds under the sports complex had not undergone the necessary upgrades, and no official logo or torch relay for the Games had been launched either.
Interestingly, the Games were originally planned for February 2025 but were pushed to May due to scheduling issues — only to face postponement again due to similar concerns.
