Rawalpindi: In the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, Lahore Qalandars’ wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings shattered a long-standing record held by Umar Akmal, showcasing an explosive display of power-hitting against Quetta Gladiators in Rawalpindi.
During the Sunday night clash, Sam Billings smashed an unbeaten 50 off just 19 balls, setting a new record for the fastest half-century by a Lahore Qalandars player in PSL history. The previous record of a 22-ball fifty was held by Umar Akmal, which he achieved back in 2016 during the inaugural season of the league.
Billings’ quickfire innings was filled with aggressive strokes, including 4 sixes and 4 boundaries, helping Lahore post a commanding total of 219/6 in their allotted 20 overs. His performance played a key role in Lahore Qalandars’ emphatic 79-run victory over Quetta Gladiators in the fourth match of the tournament.
While Billings set a franchise record, the overall fastest fifties in PSL history remain with Asif Ali and Rilee Rossouw, both of whom have scored fifties off just 17 balls.
Other notable contributions for Lahore included Fakhar Zaman, who scored a fluent 67 runs with 3 sixes and 7 fours, providing a solid platform at the top. Quetta, in response, was bundled out for 140 runs in the 17th over, unable to cope with Lahore’s dominant batting and disciplined bowling.
