
LAHORE: Pakistan got off to a winning start in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025, defeating Ireland by 38 runs in their opening match at Gaddafi Stadium.
Batting first, Pakistan Women posted a total of 217 runs in 49 overs. The innings was anchored by solid performances from Sidra Ameen and Aliya Riaz, both scoring half-centuries. After an early setback with the first wicket falling at just 4 runs, Sidra Ameen and Muneeba Ali built a crucial partnership to stabilize the innings. Muneeba contributed 32 runs before being dismissed, paving the way for Aliya Riaz to join the crease. Sidra Ameen scored 51, while Aliya Riaz added a valuable 52 runs. Skipper Fatima Sana chipped in with 19 runs before the team was all out in the final over.
Chasing a target of 218, Ireland Women put up a fight, with openers Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter both scoring 44 runs each. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to resist Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack. Diana Baig led the charge with a superb four-wicket haul, while Nashra Sandhu claimed three wickets and Sadia Iqbal took two.
Ireland were bowled out for 179, falling short by 38 runs as Pakistan secured a strong start to their qualifying campaign.
