The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hosted by Pakistan, has shattered all previous viewership records in the tournament’s history, according to global broadcast data released after the event.
This year marked the first ICC event hosted by Pakistan in 29 years, and it proved to be a massive success in terms of fan engagement. Held across February and March 2025, the tournament recorded 368 billion minutes of global viewership—19% higher than the last edition held in England and Wales in 2017.
The final match, played on March 9 in Dubai under the hybrid hosting model between India and New Zealand, became the most-watched Champions Trophy match of all time, drawing a staggering 65.3 billion live viewing minutes—an increase of 52.1% compared to the 2017 final. In Pakistan alone, watch time rose by 24%, underlining the local enthusiasm for the tournament.
India emerged victorious in the final, defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets to claim their third Champions Trophy title.
Due to political considerations, matches involving India were held at neutral venues in the UAE. This included the much-anticipated Pakistan vs. India clash, which also took place in Dubai.
The 2025 tournament was historic not only for its numbers but also for the extensive efforts made by Pakistan to prepare for the event. Major stadiums were upgraded, with Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium receiving a major facelift in record time.
The previous Champions Trophy final in 2017 saw Pakistan defeat India by 180 runs. The 2025 edition not only revived international cricket on home soil but also elevated Pakistan’s profile as a successful ICC event host.
