England’s star batter Joe Root has achieved a major milestone in Test cricket, becoming the fastest player to reach 13,000 runs in the format. Root accomplished the feat during the first Test against Zimbabwe, completing his 28th run on Day 1 of the match — marking his 153rd Test appearance.
With this, Root becomes the fifth cricketer in history and the first Englishman to cross 13,000 Test runs. He surpassed the previous record for the fastest 13,000 runs, held by Jacques Kallis, who reached the milestone in 159 Tests. Other legends who took more matches include Rahul Dravid (160), Ricky Ponting (162), and Sachin Tendulkar (163).
Tendulkar still holds the record for most runs in Test cricket, amassing 15,921 runs in 200 matches.
On a dominant opening day against Zimbabwe, England posted 498/3, with Ben Duckett scoring 140, Zak Crawley 124, and Root contributing 34 runs. Ollie Pope (169*) and Harry Brook (9*) remained unbeaten at stumps.
