Dubai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly faced an embarrassing setback after attempting to shift the Indian Premier League (IPL) to Dubai, only to find that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had already secured the venue.
According to sources, the BCCI reached out to the Emirates Cricket Board to explore the possibility of hosting IPL matches in the UAE due to rising tensions with Pakistan. However, they were informed that the PCB had already finalized arrangements for holding Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Dubai.
Insiders revealed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had initiated discussions earlier, and all agreements for the PSL relocation to Dubai were concluded on the night of May 8. The announcement was made shortly thereafter.
As a result, the IPL has now been postponed indefinitely, as no alternative venue could be secured on short notice. Indian media reports suggest that BCCI is now exploring a possible window in September for rescheduling the tournament. However, this raises concerns about a potential clash with the Asia Cup, which is also planned around the same period.
