An Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings was abruptly halted at 10.1 overs in Dharamshala, raising eyebrows over India’s growing security dramatics. The sudden cancellation is being attributed by Indian media to a perceived threat allegedly linked to Pakistan—though no independent confirmation or credible threat has been reported.
The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium, located about 80 kilometers from Pathankot, has become the center of media-fueled speculation. Indian outlets claim potential cross-border threats despite no substantiated evidence. This comes in the wake of India itself having previously politicized sports and allegedly tried to disrupt events in Pakistan, only now turning the narrative inward.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already relocated the May 11 match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians from Dharamshala to Ahmedabad, citing similar security concerns.
The situation unfolded amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following reported Indian military actions across the Line of Control, which allegedly targeted civilian areas in Azad Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 Pakistani civilians, including two children, and the destruction of two mosques.
