Mumbai: Following the tragic Pahalgam attack, Indian extremists and sections of the media have lashed out, not even sparing their own national hero, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra.
The Indian javelin thrower has faced intense criticism from hardline BJP supporters and media outlets for inviting Pakistan’s gold medalist Arshad Nadeem to an athletic event in India. After the invitation, Chopra found himself under heavy fire, forcing him to issue public clarifications.
Addressing the backlash, Neeraj Chopra condemned the Pahalgam incident and clarified that his invitation to Arshad Nadeem was extended long before the unfortunate attack occurred. “Much hatred and misinformation have been spread regarding the invitation,” Chopra said, emphasizing that sports should transcend politics and conflict.
