Karachi: New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert, currently playing for Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, has voiced his disappointment over the low fan turnout during matches held in Karachi.
Speaking to the media, Seifert praised the high standard of competition in PSL, stating that every team presents a tough challenge, making the league thrilling and competitive. However, he pointed out a noticeable gap—the lack of crowd support in Karachi. He expressed hope that in the upcoming matches, more fans would turn up to cheer for their home team.
“When teams play home matches, they want to feel the support of their crowd. That energy from fans can make a big difference,” Seifert added, emphasizing the emotional and psychological boost players get from a supportive crowd.
When asked about what sets the PSL apart from other T20 leagues around the world, Seifert highlighted the exceptional fast bowling talent. “Every PSL team has brilliant young fast bowlers. That’s what makes this league stand out,” he said.
The Kiwi batter also shared that his personal focus in franchise cricket is not on individual statistics but on contributing to team victories. He expressed satisfaction with his start to PSL 10 and hoped to maintain the momentum moving forward.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Seifert said that Karachi Kings made a strong comeback after an initial defeat, particularly with their well-rounded performance against Quetta Gladiators. He added that the team is preparing to bring early pressure against Islamabad United in their upcoming match.
Seifert also commented on the growing number of franchise leagues worldwide, saying that while such opportunities allow players to experience different playing conditions, it is important to establish a fixed calendar for both international and franchise cricket to avoid scheduling conflicts.
He mentioned that recent instances of players opting out of national contracts highlight the ongoing tension between international commitments and lucrative franchise cricket opportunities.
