Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially advertised the position of head coach for the national cricket team, inviting qualified candidates to apply through its official website.
This development comes after Aaqib Javed was appointed as the interim head coach, initially for the Champions Trophy, and later continued in the role for Pakistan’s New Zealand tour. However, sources reveal that Aaqib Javed is no longer interested in continuing as head coach and is instead eyeing the role of Director of High Performance.
In addition to the head coach role, PCB has also advertised the Director of High Performance position, which has remained vacant since Nadeem Khan’s resignation.
According to internal sources, PCB is leaning towards hiring a foreign head coach, although it is expected that they will not pursue high-profile names. The eligibility criteria for the head coach include a minimum of Level 3 cricket coaching qualification, and interested candidates can submit their applications by May 4.
The pool of potential candidates is said to be limited, especially among local coaches, making a foreign appointment more likely. The board’s strategy appears to be focused on securing a coach who aligns with its long-term performance goals, rather than opting for a big name for publicity.
