Concerns over potential match-fixing and suspicious activities during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) have prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to issue a high-level alert to all participating teams and stakeholders.
According to Indian media reports, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has warned team owners, players, coaches, support staff, commentators, and other officials about the activities of a Hyderabad-based businessman who may attempt to approach individuals involved in the league.
The ACSU has stated that this individual allegedly has links with bookmakers and a history of involvement in corrupt practices. There are concerns that he could be attempting to befriend team members and gain access through lavish gifts, expensive jewelry, or private invitations to parties and events.
Reports suggest the businessman has been seen around team hotels and match venues, raising alarms about possible attempts to influence players or support staff. The BCCI has instructed everyone associated with the IPL to report any interaction or approach made by this individual immediately.
The warning comes as part of the BCCI’s ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the tournament and prevent any breach of its anti-corruption code.
