LAHORE: As the excitement builds for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Punjab Police has finalized comprehensive security arrangements to ensure a safe and peaceful environment during the tournament.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to providing foolproof security for players, officials, and cricket fans. “We are fully prepared to ensure that the matches take place in a secure and peaceful environment,” stated the IG.
Coordination has been completed with all relevant departments, including the Pakistan Cricket Board, district administrations, and security agencies. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, over 21,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan during the matches.
In Lahore alone, more than 8,000 officers will be on duty. Rawalpindi will see 5,000 personnel deployed, while Multan will be secured by 8,000 officers during match days. The tournament schedule includes 13 matches in Lahore, 11 in Rawalpindi, and 5 in Multan.
Security measures will include thorough searches, sweeps, combing operations, and intelligence-based monitoring around stadiums, team accommodations, and travel routes. IG Punjab emphasized maintaining high alert throughout the matches while ensuring smooth traffic flow and public convenience.
The Safe Cities Authority will monitor stadiums, hotels, and team routes through surveillance cameras, while additional traffic wardens will be stationed to ensure uninterrupted traffic and organized parking facilities.
Special police units, including Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and Elite Force teams, will conduct enhanced patrolling during match timings. Snipers will be strategically positioned on high-rise buildings surrounding the stadiums for added security.
Personnel stationed at stadium entrances and exits have been directed to engage with the public courteously. The IG Punjab also instructed that traffic advisories be issued in advance by the relevant districts to inform citizens and ensure smooth travel during match days.
Dr. Usman Anwar urged cricket enthusiasts to cooperate with Punjab Police and follow security guidelines to enjoy PSL matches in a safe and secure environment.
