KARACHI: Fast bowler Hasan Ali of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings believes that the performance of the national cricket team directly influences the perception and popularity of the PSL.
Speaking to the media during Karachi Kings’ first practice session ahead of the 10th edition of the PSL, Hasan said, “When the national team doesn’t perform well, it affects the franchise league too. If the national team performs well, the graph of PSL also goes up.”
While showing support for the national team, Hasan acknowledged the recent struggles but emphasized the importance of giving new players time. “It’s true that our current results are not great, but there are many new faces on the team. New players need time to settle. They know where mistakes were made and where improvement is required,” he added.
Hasan further said that players need to perform well in the PSL to reconnect fans with cricket. “People in our country love cricket deeply. Our goal is to make them happy with our performances. A strong PSL will help reignite the public’s passion for the game.”
Addressing a question about PSL clashing with the IPL this year, he remarked, “This was the only available window. Fans watch whichever tournament offers quality performances. If we play good cricket, they’ll choose PSL over IPL.”
The 29-year-old pacer stressed the value of PSL as a platform for young talent. “PSL has brought many players into the limelight. It gives youngsters a chance to share the dressing room with top international cricketers, which is a big learning opportunity.”
Hasan Ali also highlighted his own form and ambitions. “I recently played in the National T20 Cup and performed well. I aim to maintain that momentum. Last season was good for me, and this time it’s even more important because I’m making a comeback. I hope to perform my best and help Karachi Kings attract fans back to the stadium.”
The 10th edition of the PSL kicks off on April 11 with the opening match between defending champions Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
