A rare and surprising incident occurred during the third One Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and New Zealand when the floodlights at the Mount Maunganui stadium suddenly went off during Pakistan’s innings.
The unusual moment took place in the 39th over while New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy was delivering a ball. Just as he released it, the entire stadium was plunged into darkness. Pakistani batter Tayyab Tahir narrowly avoided being hit due to the sudden blackout.
Fortunately, the floodlights were restored shortly after, and the match continued without further interruptions.
Despite the momentary disruption, New Zealand went on to dominate the game and completed a clean sweep in the three-match ODI series. Batting first, the hosts posted a total of 264 runs for 8 wickets in their 42-over innings. In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 221, losing the match by 43 runs.
