
Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq suffered a facial injury during the third and final One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand, played at Mount Maunganui. The incident occurred while he was running between the wickets and was struck on the face by a throw from a New Zealand fielder.
The ball deflected off Imam’s helmet grill and hit him on the jaw, forcing him to leave the field retired hurt. According to the team management, the left-handed batter did not pass the concussion test and will not return to bat in the match. Usman Khan has been sent in to continue the innings in place of Imam.
Medical personnel provided immediate treatment to Imam-ul-Haq at the ground’s emergency center, and further evaluation will determine if hospital care is necessary.
Earlier, New Zealand set a target of 265 runs for Pakistan in 42 overs. The hosts already lead the three-match ODI series 2-0 and are aiming for a clean sweep.
Notably, this is the second incident in the series involving head injuries. In the second ODI, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was also struck on the helmet during batting and had to leave the field due to concussion symptoms. Naseem Shah replaced him at the crease.
