In a historic moment during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya achieved a milestone never seen before in the tournament’s 17-year history.
On Friday, Pandya delivered a remarkable bowling performance against Lucknow Super Giants, becoming the first captain in IPL history to take five wickets in a single match. He bowled his full quota of four overs, conceding 36 runs and claiming five crucial wickets, marking his best-ever figures in T20 cricket.
Despite his outstanding individual effort, Mumbai Indians fell short in their chase of a formidable target. Lucknow Super Giants had posted 203/8 in their 20 overs, and in response, Mumbai Indians managed 191/5, falling 12 runs short of victory.
Hardik Pandya’s performance stands out not only for the personal milestone but also for setting a new benchmark for captaincy in the IPL. The previous best bowling figures by a captain in IPL history were 4 wickets for 16 runs, achieved by Anil Kumble in 2009 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
