Lahore: Former Pakistan international cricketer Usman Qadir has expressed his determination to represent Australia in international cricket.
Usman Qadir, who has moved to Australia, returned to Lahore to celebrate Ramadan and Eid with his family. Speaking to Geo News, he shared, “I came to Pakistan to observe fasts and celebrate Eid with my family. Ramadan in Pakistan has a unique charm, and I have never observed fasts outside the country. Moreover, I never prefer to be away from my family on festive occasions.”
The 31-year-old leg spinner, who played one ODI and 25 T20Is for Pakistan, announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket last year after facing continuous selection setbacks. He then moved to Australia, where he has started playing club cricket in Sydney as the first step in his transition.
Usman Qadir revealed that things are going as planned in Australia. “After moving to Australia, everything is under control, and I am progressing step by step. Soon, I will be seen playing domestic cricket in Australia. I am working hard to earn a place in the Australian team, where selections are purely based on performance and merit.”
Speaking about his decision to move, Usman emphasized that it was made for a better future. “My father wanted me to play for Pakistan, and I fulfilled his wish. However, the circumstances in Pakistan cricket changed, which everyone is aware of. I had to make a move for my future, and I believe more players might take similar decisions in the future.”
