Pakistan’s opening batter, Imam-ul-Haq, has expressed optimism about winning the remaining two ODIs against New Zealand.
Pakistan suffered a 73-run defeat in the first ODI of the three-match series, with Imam missing out due to a right foot injury. However, ahead of the second match, he shared his thoughts with the media, stating, “What’s done is done; we can’t dwell on it. I firmly believe we can win the next two matches.”
Imam acknowledged that adapting to New Zealand’s conditions can be challenging initially, but adequate practice has helped the team adjust. “There is some bounce in these conditions, but once you face 15 to 20 balls, scoring becomes easier,” he explained.
He also highlighted the new bowling attack, noting that apart from Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, the rest of the bowlers are relatively inexperienced.
Despite recent setbacks, Imam remains confident in the team’s abilities. “We have a strong ODI squad with experienced players who have won crucial matches for Pakistan. We need to move past the past and focus on making a strong comeback,” he said.
He emphasized that the team’s morale took a hit after the Champions Trophy, but winning under tough conditions will boost confidence.
Imam, who has been a consistent member of the squad for the past six to eight years, reflected on his time away from the team, calling it a learning experience. “When you’re not part of the playing XI, you learn a lot. I played all forms of domestic cricket in the last six to seven months, which helped me improve,” he said.
