Indian women’s cricketer and UP Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepti Sharma has filed a complaint against her former teammate and friend Aarushi Goel, accusing her of fraud and theft totaling over ₹25 lakh (approx. $30,000 USD).
According to Indian media reports, Deepti, 28, claims that Aarushi Goel, a fellow cricketer and current junior clerk at Agra Cantt Railway Station, not only borrowed large sums of money under false pretenses but also broke into Deepti’s flat in Agra, stealing gold and silver jewelry along with foreign currency worth ₹2 lakh and other valuables.
The FIR was filed by Deepti’s brother, Sumit Sharma, who alleged that a friendship developed between the two during their time on the same cricket team. Sumit claims that Aarushi and her family exploited Deepti’s trust by frequently citing personal and financial troubles, eventually conning her out of significant money over a two-year period.
The complaint also details that on April 22, Aarushi allegedly entered the flat, changed the locks, and fled with the stolen items.
Aarushi, 27, has previously represented Uttar Pradesh’s women’s cricket team and played under Deepti as a junior. When approached by the media, she refused to comment on the accusations.
The matter is currently under police investigation.
