Former Pakistan cricketer and analyst Basit Ali has sparked a debate by stating that he would never select Shadab Khan for the national team based on his current PSL 10 performances.
Speaking on a private TV show, Anchor Basit Ali praised Islamabad United as the strongest team in the ongoing PSL season. He ranked Lahore Qalandars second, ahead of Quetta Gladiators.
Former wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal agreed, highlighting that Islamabad United has improved significantly with the inclusion of new and foreign players, especially Alex Hales.
Responding to a question about Shadab Khan’s place in the team, Kamran Akmal said the spinner still has a chance depending on the selectors’ evaluation of his performances.
However, Basit Ali strongly disagreed, saying, “As a selector, I would never pick Shadab Khan because he hasn’t impressed in this PSL. We have talented players like Abrar Ahmed, Sufiyan Shaikh, and Khushdil Shah who deserve the spot. If senior players keep taking spots based on past records, where will the new talent get opportunities? ”
Basit Ali’s remarks have stirred discussion around team selection and the future of emerging players in Pakistan cricket.
