Recent reports circulating in the media suggested that India might pull out of this year’s scheduled Asia Cup due to ongoing tensions with Pakistan. According to some Indian news outlets, the BCCI had allegedly decided to withdraw from both the Men’s Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.
However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has officially dismissed these reports, calling them baseless and speculative. In a statement, Saikia clarified that no formal decision has been made regarding India’s participation in any Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events.
“We are aware of the reports circulating since this morning,” Saikia said. “There has been no discussion so far regarding our participation in the Asia Cup or the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup. The current news is not based on facts.”
He emphasized that the BCCI is currently focused on the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the upcoming series against England. “Any official decision regarding ACC tournaments will be communicated by the board after internal discussions,” he added.
Notably, an unnamed Indian official was quoted in a newspaper report claiming India’s withdrawal from the tournaments. The BCCI, however, has firmly refuted these claims.
