India’s young cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the center of an online debate following his record-breaking century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals player stunned fans by scoring a century in just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans — the fastest T20 century by any Indian player.
While many have praised his exceptional talent and composure at such a young age, questions are now being raised about his actual age. Former Indian boxer Vijender Singh took to social media, subtly casting doubt by asking whether age fraud has become common in cricket as well. He commented, “Seems like reducing age is the new way to play professional cricket these days.”
Fueling the speculation is a resurfaced interview from 2023 in which Suryavanshi claimed to be 14 years old at the time. Based on that statement, critics argue that he would now be around 16, not 14 as reported. Despite this, major platforms, including Indian media outlets and cricket website Cricinfo, continue to list his age as 14.
The controversy has sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans and commentators demanding clarity from the IPL and BCCI regarding proper age verification procedures.
