Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team will not travel to India for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup, stating that this decision had already been agreed upon in advance.
Speaking to the media at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, following a meeting with the national women’s team, Naqvi emphasized that while India is the official host of the tournament, Pakistan will not participate on Indian soil. “We are ready to play at any neutral venue except India,” he stated, reiterating the board’s stance on the issue.
Commenting on the team’s recent performance, Naqvi praised the unity and hard work shown by the players. “When a team plays with cohesion, the results are always positive,” he said. He added that the women cricketers will be rewarded, as it is their right following such an outstanding performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Naqvi also acknowledged that the women’s team had gone through several minor changes in recent times but is now showing stability and progress. He expressed confidence that similar improvements will soon be seen in the U19 Shaheens and the men’s national team as well.
Regarding the men’s team, Naqvi mentioned that some major decisions are expected soon. He confirmed that Aaqib Javed was requested to take on an interim role and that it was a temporary arrangement, with further announcements likely next week.
When asked about reports suggesting Mohammad Rizwan’s discontent due to a lack of authority, the PCB chairman declined to comment on the matter.
