Punjab Kings (PBKS) have made an impressive start to their IPL 2025 campaign, securing back-to-back wins that have propelled them to second place on the points table. Their latest triumph came against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in an away fixture on Tuesday night.
Following the victory, PBKS took a playful dig at LSG captain Rishabh Pant through their official social media account on X (formerly Twitter), referencing an old remark Pant made during an interview.
Pant was appointed as LSG captain in January 2025, and during the announcement, he recalled his nervousness during the IPL mega auction last year. At the time, PBKS had the biggest purse of Rs 110.5 crore, and Pant feared they might place a successful bid for him.
“Internally, I had only one tension, and that was Punjab (Kings),” Pant had said, laughing.
“The second highest purse was Rs 82 crore (Rs 83 crore), while Punjab had Rs 110.5 crore. When Shreyas (Iyer) went to Punjab at the start, I felt I could make it to LSG. But with the auction, you never know. Sometimes, you just have to wait and watch. I had my fingers crossed.”
PBKS eventually spent Rs 26.75 crore to acquire Shreyas Iyer, allowing Pant to land at LSG.
After their convincing win over LSG, PBKS humorously reminded Pant of his past remarks, indirectly highlighting their dominance in the contest.
