Pakistan’s bowling coach, Azhar Mahmood, has pointed out that the team’s fast bowlers have been performing individually rather than as a unit.
In a recent statement, Mahmood stated, “One bowler performs well, but the other doesn’t deliver the same performance. If all three bowlers perform together, it would be ideal.”
He acknowledged that Haris Rauf bowled brilliantly in one match, but the rest of the bowlers couldn’t step up. He emphasized that Pakistan currently has a young team, and despite injuries, the players have shown fighting spirit. While the team has lost the series, Mahmood reminded them that they are not out of any major tournament.
Discussing the evolving nature of modern cricket, Mahmood explained that scores of 160 are no longer competitive and that teams now need to aim for 180 to 200+ to stay ahead.
Regarding Shaheen Afridi, he noted that the pacer was unlucky, as some of his deliveries resulted in top edges but did not lead to wickets. He added that playing in New Zealand presents significant challenges, including extra bounce and pace, making it difficult for both batters and bowlers.
Mahmood revealed that he advised batters to utilize pace smartly rather than fighting against it. He also guided the bowlers on adjusting their lengths according to New Zealand conditions.
Speaking about Abrar Ahmed, Mahmood stated that the young spinner has only played eight matches, which isn’t enough to judge his full potential.
Pakistan and New Zealand are set to play the fifth and final T20I of the series on Wednesday, with the visitors already having lost the series. Pakistan will aim for a 3-2 finish to avoid a clean sweep.
