The Central Asian Volleyball Championship, originally scheduled to take place in Islamabad from May 29, has been relocated to Uzbekistan due to heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pahalgam attack.
The decision to shift the event was made during a recent meeting of the Central Asian Volleyball Federation held in Nepal. The Pakistan Volleyball Federation has officially confirmed the relocation, citing security concerns and hesitations from participating teams—particularly India—about traveling to Pakistan.
The championship was expected to be a major sporting event in Islamabad, but diplomatic strain following the killing of 26 Indian tourists in Pahalgam, located in the disputed Kashmir region, has led to increased political friction. In response, India has taken several aggressive measures, including moves to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, prompting a strong reaction from Pakistan.
With the relocation to Uzbekistan, the event will proceed on the same dates, ensuring continuity while avoiding further geopolitical complications.
